Ballinrostig Cheese is owned and run by husband and wife team, Stephen Bender and Michele Cashman.
Stephen moved to Ireland from the Netherlands more than 20 years ago and he is proud to be considered an honorary Irish man. Of course he was steeped in and learned his trade within the cheese making culture of the Netherlands. He ran a successful business making and selling goats cheese there and also when he came to Ireland first.
In 2014, the couple moved into and renovated Michele’s family home in the village of Ballinrostig, in East Cork, transforming the garage into a purpose built dairy. Both Stephen and Michelle are also keen to bring the principals of Permaculture to the enterprise.
The Cush team work with some of the finest Irish food producers…
…the Michelin inspectors wrote that it is a “smart, modern restaurant” that is run by a “friendly, welcoming team”.
“Drive along the stunning coast on the way to Ballycotton and you will certainly be in the mood for some splendidly fresh fish when you arrive.”
“Between the location overlooking Ballycotton lighthouse, the superb food and the easy, polished service, this little gem of a restaurant is more than worth a detour.”
